There’s been a lot of talk about Mental Health in the workplace for many years. And while there have been programs to help people cope with bullying and other forms of training, none of them have been accredited.

Now finally a fully accredited Mental Health in the Workplace Training program has been released. It is called MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN THE WORKPLACE AND COMMUNITY – CHCMHS001 & CHCCCS019.

This course provides both practical knowledge and useful tools to provide your team with greater confidence to support others when they need it.

This training fits under the category of Mental Health First Aid and is designed to train people to help others in the workplace and community by providing Mental Health support to colleagues and co-workers.

What the Mental Health Support in the Workplace & Community Training covers

This accredited training is designed to give participants a variety of practical skills and knowledge that they can apply in their workplace and the broader community.

Participants in the course will learn how to:

  • recognise the signs of possible mental health concerns in an individual

  • respond to crisis situations

  • communicate appropriately in the case of mental health issues

  • provide initial support to sufferers

  • and understand when and how to seek further assistance

Awareness of psycho-social and other risks

This workplace focused training builds awareness around psycho-social risks. It helps participants to better understand how workplace factors can affect mental health and well being.

But more importantly, this training is all about turning knowledge into actions. Participants in this course will develop practical, usable tools to help them:

  • Recognise signs that someone may need support

  • Better understand mental health and wellbeing

  • Recognise and respond appropriately to crisis situations

  • Identify and understand psycho-social risks in the workplace

  • Be able to start supportive conversations with greater confidence

  • Know when and where to seek additional support

  • Encourage early intervention and help-seeking

  • Contribute to safer, healthier and more supportive workplaces and communities

What will be the outcome of this Accredited Mental Health First Aid course?

On successful completion of MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN THE WORKPLACE AND COMMUNITY – CHCMHS001 & CHCCCS019, participants will have developed practical skills and knowledge to allow them to work appropriately with people experiencing mental health issues. They will also have learnt how to recognise and respond to crisis situations.

The focus of this course is on giving participants skills that they can understand, remember and apply. Equipping them to know what to look for, how to respond and when further support may be required.

Supporting International Workplace standards such as ISO

This accredited training is designed to help support an organisation in strengthening their approach to mental health, wellbeing and psycho-social risk management.

It has been created to support alignment with relevant ISO standards and guidance, including:

  • ISO 45001 – Occupational health and safety management systems
